While visiting Gibbons, Danielle Smith discusses politics in Canada vs. the United States.
“I look at the Americans. I look at Ron DeSantis in Florida and Kristi Noem in South Dakota, […] they’ve been able to create little bastions of freedom, and we can create a little bastion of freedom in Alberta as well.”
DeSantis is most well known outside of the United States for his anti-abortion stance, and restrictions in education with respect to sexual orientation (aka “Don’t Say Gay“), and what he deemed to be “woke” indoctrination.
Kristi Noem would be in the news the next year after writing about shooting a puppy she had failed to train when it got overexcited and proved useless as a hunting dog on it’s first trip out. Less ghastly (but possibly more weird), she has also said that she has not met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and that the account in her book where she had was an “error”.
