A new online mapping tool highlighting the 50 most influential fossil fuel industry players in Western Canada
was launched today to help shed light on who’s who in the oil resource sector. (University of Victoria press release)
The Corporate Mapping Project tool tracks and organizes companies and institutions in the carbon sector, classified by “Emitters” (directly involved extracting, processing and transporting oil, gas and coal), “Enablers” (banks and industry-friendly regulators), or “Legitimators” (industry associations, think tanks, lobby groups, business councils and pro-oil advocacy groups.)
The raw data can be processed to produce “power maps” indicating relationships between various institutions.
