Smith has caused some level of confusion federally with her inconsistent demands.
In a government interview, Smith says:
“We’re looking at, now, people living in shelter spaces, people living in campgrounds, […] That is not good for the newcomers coming here. There just isn’t the housing stock to be able to support that. We’re also seeing higher unemployment rates in Edmonton and Calgary. […] our schools are just busting at the seams”

The “Alberta’s Calling” moving bonus can only be applied for starting May of 2025, and the campaign as a whole was started in 2022. It seems as if Smith is surprised that people arriving in Alberta need jobs, housing, schools and medical care?
