In an open letter, the Edmonton Zone Medical Staff Association indicate that both staffing and bed capacities are dangerously high

and that:

[the EZMSA] believe the situation has become so critical that
deaths of infants may soon follow.

 

This follows previous private letters, the most recent in early February asking for a meeting.  At CBC’s inquiry,

[t]he health minister’s office has since confirmed it received the February correspondence from Calgary and Edmonton neonatologists and an investigation was ordered into the concerns at the time.

But it wasn’t until this week’s letter, which was made public, that the minister expedited that work.
