Violations include failing to keep records and making false statements. Founder David Parker personally fined $7,500
The Elections Alberta Administrative Penalties page lists “Take Back Alberta Election Third Party Advertiser” as violating at least half-a dozen sections of the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act, by:
- Failure to retain all records for a period of 3 years
- Circumventing the election advertising spending limits.
- Acceptance of contributions from outside of Alberta and Canada.
- Failure to deposit contributions into appropriate advertising accounts, and failure to pay expenses from the appropriate advertising account.
- Obtaining loans from non-permitted institutions / individuals
TBA founder David Parker was fined for knowingly exceeding the $30,000 contribution list, and knowingly making false statements on the Elections financing report filed with the Chief Electoral Officer.
The Take Back Alberta CFA Marco Van Huigenbos was also fined, for knowingly making false statements on multiple reports.
David Parker on his part appears to be unrepentant, and from his tweet on the matter possibly considers the fine simply the cost of doing business:
I mean, the UCP is government. The board is filled with people I recruited into politics. Danielle Smith is Premier. The school boards are about to be swept by parental rights activists. Yeah, that’s worth $100k to me.
